Civic Engagement and Accountability in Good Governance

The project supported the Divisional secretariat staff specially GN official ’s capacity building to enable them to push for political and constitutional changes in favor of Good governance in the District.

Countries with high levels of corruption, or which lack effective rule of law or accountability in government are more susceptible to conflict and social unrest that than other developing countries. The persistence of corruption adversely impacts the delivery of health, education and other social benefits, and is a contributing factor to the persistence of poverty and other inequalities.

District Secretariat of Ratnapura has taken bold steps toward Administrative and social change, including reinforcing the role of duty holders and has introduced new systems and effective and efficient service delivery mechanisms at District and divisional secretariat level. Community Development Foundation launched the Strengthening Democratic Governance and Accountability Project (SDGAP), a one – year program to strengthen public accountability systems; by strengthening capacities.
